Lotta H2O under the bridge...

wow- I've done been gone from this for too long; in the intervening months I was diagnosed with a recurrence of my Atrial flutter, had a freaking cough that refused to go away after the cold was over; had a cardiac catheter ablation to treat the atrial flutter (look it up on wikipedia- 21st century medicine rocks!)

So anyway I am approaching a semblance of "health normality" and just in time!

The Holidays are coming, with requisite appearances by Last Train Home at Iota Club and Cafe' pre Christmas for our weekend long extravaganza (19,20,21matinee)

Also-a show at Ashland Coffee & Tea on the 27th for Kay's Birthday and the Holidays

Finally a big New Years Eve show back at Iota which is (I'm led to believe) the "final" Last Train Home show...Kind of our Last Waltz Home.

Please visit the LTH website for details on the shows- times, check me on the dates, etc... Click on the "Tour" menu item on the newly revamped Red Beet Records site.

Thanks to all who come out to hear us. Stop by the steel guitar chair and say "hi" won't you?

Hill Country BBQ NYC 9/12/08

I'll be sittin' in with
Honky Tonk Confidential at Hill Country BBQin NYC Friday Night. This is another of the HTC + Bob Shieffer in his alter ego as a Country Singer gigs; he's a great guy and it's a hoot- there's a private Book Release party early in the evening, then the place opens to the public.

This past weekend I was pleased to be invited to play with the Youngers at their big CD release event in Reading PA- they are on the cusp of a touring jagg that will have us intersecting again at iota in Arlington later this month when they open for Last Train Home Saturday night 9/27..LTH is there all weekend long (9/26-9/27-and a sunday matinee 9/28)

Lame- I forgot to post here about last weekend @ Iota

oi!

But I will post this...

I will NOT be on the LTH dates in the Richmond area this coming weekend... but that's OK! The steel guitar chair will be staffed by Alex McCollough, a fine player and even finer person :-). He played guitar on the iota dates this past weekend, and we "bonded", basically boring the rest of the band with steel guitar arcana.... just chattering away on breaks and during setup and rehearsals.

It just made more sense in the scheme of $4+ petrol and other logistical considerations that he ride in with the Nashville contingent, than I drive to meet them.

The next time I'll be playing with LTH is I believe July 11 in Beautiful Bucks County PA at Puck in Doylestown- with the Youngers opening!

Sellersville May 30, Annapolis May 31, VinFest June 1

This coming weekend I will be playing once again with my pals Last Train Home, roving the east coast.

Friday night May 30, 8 pm we are opening for Old School Freight Train at the Sellersville Theater 1894, Sellersville, PA in what seems to be a tour-de-force of booking a show based on band names alone. (ha ha) Actually our acts are quite compatible..

then Saturday night at the Rams Head in Annapolis MD, with our pals The Youngers opening at 8 pm

and lastly we will be closing out the 3 day Vintage Virginia Wine Fest @ the
Bull Run Regional Park Special Events Center, Centerville VA at about 4:30 pm

Roll out the Red Carpet

1966 Buckaroos with Kay Adams Singin'.
Tom Brumley-ZB Custom pedal steel, Don Rich-Tele, Willie Cantu-drums, Doyle Holly-bass

I have been remiss...

and have been urged to "update, baby, update!"

I failed to pre-post about some April gigage in Johnson City TN, that went both well and also sideways- there's an old showbiz saying... someone refers to a city or town , and you respond "Oh, I spent a week there, one night!"... well that's Johnson City for me.

That's all I'm sayin', and you can continue to wonder what I'm talking about if you don't already know. Has nothing to do with the Down Home- they were, and are, great to us there!

Anyway...

May shapes up that eric is across the pond in europe gigging vagabond style with his acoustic and Peter Cooper. Meanwhile I will be sitting in at the Heartlands Hayride radio show at a low power station (WDVR) in New Jersey on Saturday nights, may 10, 17, 24. This is a 2 hour broadcast of old school country entertainment and "comedy" broadcast live with a talent pool culled from the surrounding New Jersey hills. I've done this gig on and off for many years, and as a matter of fact was the original staff steel player for about 2-3 years. It's the challenge of live radio and backing folks with skills ranging from marginal karaoke to quite good. It's the gig I learned to count in 1/4 ( one, one, one, one) so I'm always on the downbeat if someone drops or adds a beat. They stream it at wdvrfm.org at 6 pm eastern time on Saturdays

Last Train Home will be coming to Beautiful Bucks County to play a show with Old School Freight Train at the Sellersville Theater on May 30th (we're opening the show for them) and then we will be at the Rams Head in Annapolis MD on May 31 with The Youngers opening for us.

The Youngers are a fine band from Reading area who I've sat in with on several occasions. They have recorded a forthcoming CD at the famous Cash Cabin (not to be confused with the Cash Cab) Studio with John Carter Cash producing.

so I hope that's enough to satisfy even the most curious. 'Cept for the details on Johnson CIty.

Playing Virginia 3-14 & 15-08

I will be playing the pedal steel guitar in Virginia with Last Train Home this weekend:

Friday Night in Harrisonburg, at a new venue called Clementine Cafe
Opening is Red River Rollercoaster from H'burg.
We're looking to make a strong showing there, so if you are in the area, please come!

and Saturday Night at one of my fave venues anywhere, Ashland Coffee & Tea in... Ashland!
"An evening with Last Train Home" I guess that means it's just us :)

Big weekend upcoming... 02-9&10-08

Big doin's this weekend- I'll be traveling hither and yon... and miles to go before I sleep

Saturday Night I will be sitting in on PSG with my pals The Youngers

February, 9 2008 at Johnny & Hons RobeyHouse
124 E Penn Ave, Robesonia, Pennsylvania 19551

This is The Youngers first show at Johnny & Hons, and Justin the Drummer's birthday! Lets make this a night to remember!

===============
Then Sunday-
I will be playing with Last Train Home on Sunday February 10, 2008 7 PM at The Barns @ Wolftrap National Park for the Performing Arts in Vienna, Virginia. This is our semi annual trek to the Barns, a truly remarkable venue, and a great example of our tax dollars at work.
We've been fortunate to sell out this venue the last several times we've played. Dunno if we've sold this one out yet, but if you're planning on coming, I'd check earlier rather than later

dva,The Youngers:Reading PA 01-12-08 Canal Street Pub

I will be sittin' in on the Pedal Steel Guitar with my pals The Youngers at:

Canal Street Pub
535 Canal Street, Reading, PA 19602,
Phone: 610-376-4009
Showtime 9PM Saturday 01-12-08

Also sitting in will be Philly area harmoni-cat and Flute-ist Bob Beach

This is the Youngers "hometown tavern" gig, kida like iota is for Last Train Home...

Should be a hoot.... or a toot... on a flute.... or something :)

I generally have a low threshold of tolerance for Harmonica, but I am reserving judgement; Civility requires it, eh?

Thursday, January 3, 2008

Well I entirely missed posting New Year's related gigs

But I guess that's ok 'cause they were sold out anyway and you couldn't have gotten in... gosh did that sound snarky? Sorry, I've been sick.

Anyway, in the past tense, Last Train Home played at Ashland Coffee & Tea on 12-29, the Kennedy Center Millenium Stageon the 30th and our home away from home IOTA on NYE.

Coming up on the 12th of January '08 I'll be sittin' in with the Youngers at Canal Street Pub in Reading.
